BORN RIVALS
With only 6 weeks until the air date, I embarked on producing a 60-minute documentary exploring the familial rivalry between the Benns and the Eubanks for our platform and the BBC. This compelling narrative delved into the historic clashes between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank in the late 80s and 90s, while also spotlighting the first-ever showdown between their sons, Connor and Chris Jr.
The familial connections extended beyond the ring, with Eddie Hearn promoting the fight while his father, renowned promoter Barry Hearn, oversaw the fathers' historic clashes. Our production journey took us across the UK, gathering insights from boxing legends like Mike Costello, Steve Bunce, Nigel Benn, and Tony Bellew.
However, just 6 hours before airtime, the BBC made the tough call to pull the documentary due to Connor Benn testing positive for a banned substance. Despite this setback, the documentary remains a testament to the complexities of familial rivalries and the unpredictable nature of the boxing world.
